Places to see
Whether you want to chill around the pool or go out sightseeing, there is plenty to see in the surrounding area. Depending on whether you are looking for the typical French market, seeking out local vineyards or buffing up on your history of the beautiful Quercy area with its limestone rocks, you will not be disappointed.
Local bastide villages

One feature of the area are the amazing perched villages, giving stunning views of the surrounding countryside. With their narrow medieval streets and half-timbered houses, they provide a leisurely stroll in the sunshine. Our favourite ones are: Roquecor, Pujols, Penne d'Agenais and Monflanquin.

The Château de Bonaguil is well worth a visit, as are the cloisters at Moissac Abbatiale St Pierre.
Typical French markets

A distinctive part of French culture are the colourful vibrant markets selling fresh local produce. Any day of the week there is always something going on .... these are our favourites:
-
Montaigu-de-Quercy (Saturday)
-
Montcuq (Sunday)

Marchés Gourmands are night markets (July and August) where there are a variety of food stalls to choose from with tables laid out and frequently live entertainment. These are our favourites:
-
Beauville
-
Tournon d'Agenais
Vineyards

The area is hugely proud of its wine heritage from the famous Cahors appellation, with its distinctive pinot noir grape, to the local Côteaux du Quercy. There are several vineyards quite near the house: Thezac, with its well know Vin du Tsar, Mas de Borde, or Domaine du Garinet (where you can here how wine is made from an English speaker).
Further afield

Further afield is the world heritage city of Albi or Château Beynac on the Dordogne River, which are also firm favourites of ours. The town of Carcassone is delightful, while the world famous Rocamadour and St Cirq Lapopie are cliff-side villages beyond compare.

Also well worth a visit are the caverns of the Causses du Lot (e.g. Gouffre du Padirac, Grottes du Pech Merle). City lovers will enjoy both Toulouse and Bordeaux, while Cahors provides musical concerts during the summer.
